About nature sounds

Nature sounds cover weather, water, fire and the quiet background of wild places. Wind is the largest group, from a gentle breeze to a canyon howl and trees rustling. Water comes in every form: single drops, pouring, boiling, fizzing, streams, rivers and waterfalls. There are also rain, rolling thunder, hail, blizzards, sandstorms and typhoons, crackling fires and gas flames, and the insect beds of crickets, cicadas and tropical nights.

Several places come as a set. Streams, rivers, grasslands, forests and swamps have versions named by season, time of day or setting, such as Summer, Winter, Dawn, Dusk or Calm, so you can match your scene or let it change through the day.

These are short clips of a few seconds, not hour-long tracks for sleep or study. To cover a longer shot, repeat a clip or crossfade two of them; steady textures like wind, rain and insects hide the join best. When you need one clear event instead, such as a single drop or a match strike, look for a waveform with one sharp peak.

A small share of this category is Stylized: processed, synthetic takes on water and weather that fit games and motion graphics better than a documentary.
