About alarms & sirens

Alarm sounds exist to be noticed. This category gathers sirens, horns, bells and alarms. Sirens include police, fire truck, ambulance, tornado and air raid versions, with both the American wail and the European two-tone pattern. Horns run from air horns and bike horns to truck, train and ship horns and harbor foghorns. Bells cover doorbells, church and school bells, desk bells, bicycle bells, cowbells, gongs, triangles and wind chimes in brass, bronze, steel and silver. There are also fire alarms, alarm clock rings, phones and quiz buzzers.

Choose by the message. A siren or an air raid wail means an emergency, a doorbell or a desk bell means someone has arrived, a buzzer means time is up or an answer is wrong. Distant and approaching versions, such as Distant Approach for the police or Coming Closer for a fire truck, tell the audience whether help is on its way or already here.

Many of these sounds are loud and bright by design, so set them at a sensible level and check them on small speakers. If you're building an app, the softer chimes in UI Sound Effects make better notification tones for frequent use; keep sirens and horns for moments that really need them.
