About gong sound effects
A gong is a broad bronze or brass disc, and it sounds quite different from a bell: strike it with a soft mallet and you get a low hum that blooms and shimmers while the metal keeps moving. Bigger gongs are deeper and take longer to open up; smaller ones are brighter and fade sooner. The word gong came into English from Malay and Javanese, where it imitates the sound, and a gong is said to boom, crash or ring out. In films a gong marks an entrance, a declaration or the start of a contest. These are short single hits that fade quickly, not the long swelling roar of a concert tam-tam, so they work best as an accent.

Which one to pick
Big and deep
Large Gong, Large Bronze Gong, Giant Bronze Gong, Large Brass Gong and Giant Brass Gong have the low body most people expect. In this set the bronze ones lean darker and the brass ones brighter.
Medium and bright
Small Gong, Medium Bronze Gong, Medium Brass Gong and Medium Copper Gong are quicker, closer to a dinner gong than a stage gong, and better when the hit should not take over.
Atmosphere
Distant Gong sounds far away and outdoors, good for a monastery establishing shot. Synth Gong is the electronic one, for a game menu or a stylized trailer.
