About game sound effects

Game sounds here lean toward fantasy and science fiction rather than retro arcade bleeps. The biggest sets are spaceship interiors (engine hums, reactor cores, airlocks), power charges and shields, risers that build tension, magic spells, and monster voices from trolls and giants to dragons, zombies and spirits. Smaller sets cover portals and teleports, fire, ice, lightning and healing spells, and level-complete fanfares.

Think about what each sound tells the player. A rising charge says something is about to happen, a short bright tone says it worked, a low growl says danger is close. Spell names describe their motion, such as Flash, Sweep or Vortex, so you can match the animation: Flash for an instant cast, Sweep or Vortex for an effect that travels or spins.

Spaceship sounds are steady beds that sit under a level or a cutscene; repeat or crossfade them to fill a longer scene. Charges, spells, monsters and risers swell and fall away, so trigger them once per event. More than half of this category is Stylized, which keeps effects readable over music, while the Natural takes help a game world feel physical. Small sets such as coins, jumps and lasers are listed further down this page.
