About wind sound effects
Wind has almost no sound of its own; you hear what it moves and what it squeezes through. Air through leaves becomes a rustle, through a narrow gap a thin whistle, past cables a singing hum, and across open ground a broad, rushing hiss. English verbs follow the same logic: wind whistles, howls, moans, sighs, roars and gusts.
A gust has a shape, rising to a peak and dying away, while a breeze holds one level. Strong wind also sounds lower and rougher, because it shakes bigger things: branches, sails, sheet metal, whole buildings. That is why wind is easier to choose by place than by strength.

Which one to pick
Gusts through trees and fields
Birch Grove, Pine Crest, Palm Fronds, Maple Canopy and Cornfield rise and fall with a leafy or grassy rustle. Around buildings, Alley Gust, Street Canyon and Rooftop Gust are grittier.
Wind with a pitch
Power Lines, Bridge Cables, Kite String and Wire Fence hum or sing. Door Gap, Window Pane Gust and Hallway Draft are indoor drafts with a thin whistle, and Sail Rigging and Flag Pole bring rattling metal.
Steady beds
the ten Valley Wind clips, Gentle Breeze and Trees Rustling keep an even level from start to finish, filling a whole shot instead of marking a moment.
Cinematic
Hurricane Band, Cyclone Edge, Typhoon Gust and Storm Approach are stylized, bigger and deeper than life. They belong in trailers and drama; for a documentary, stay with the natural gusts.
