About birds chirping sound effects

Birds make two kinds of sound. Calls are short and simple, a chirp, a cheep or a tweet, used to keep in touch or raise an alarm. Songs are longer, patterned phrases, sung mostly in spring by males holding a territory: the fluting blackbird, the rich and varied nightingale, the skylark pouring out notes as it climbs. English has a verb for almost every texture, from chirp and twitter to warble and trill. Some birds are not sweet at all. Magpies chatter and drongos scold. Each file holds one bird and one phrase with no forest background, so you can layer your own. Treat the species names as a guide, not a verified identification.

Songbird phrases

Nightingale Phrase, Blackbird Solo, Skylark Song, Wren Song and Mockingbird Phrase are the most melodic, for morning scenes and calm intros.

Chirps and whistles

Single Chirp, Sparrow Chirp, Chickadee Call, Cardinal Whistle and Oriole Whistle are single, simple calls, easy to drop between lines of dialogue.

Rough voices

Magpie Chatter, Distant Magpie and Drongo Call are harsh and scolding, for a bird that sounds annoyed or a scene that needs tension.

Near and far

Close Wren and Close Oriole are dry and present, while Far Thrush and Far Nightingale sit back and add depth.

Synthetic birds

Chiptune Chirp, Chiptune Canary, Arcade Bird Whistle, Synth Warble, Glass Finch and Glass Warbler suit games and apps that should not sound like a real garden.
