About rooster sound effects

The crow is a rooster's loudest call, a rising, multi-part cry that English spells cock-a-doodle-doo. Other languages hear the same rhythm differently: German kikeriki, Spanish quiquiriquí, Japanese kokekokkō. Roosters are famous for crowing at dawn, but many keep crowing through the day, announcing themselves to rival males and to their own flock. Up close it is far louder than most people expect. The wild ancestor of the domestic chicken is the red junglefowl of South and Southeast Asian forests. Its crow is often described as shorter than a farmyard rooster's, ending abruptly as if the last syllable were cut off.

Which one to pick

Morning

Dawn Crow and Rooster Crow Swell both swell to a full crow. Dawn Crow starts quieter, and Rooster Crow Swell ends on a clean fade. Either is the obvious pick for a sunrise or a wake-up moment.

Close and loud

Close Rooster and Held Crow are dry and right in your face, good when the joke is that the bird is far too loud.

Far away

Distant Crow and Distant Rooster stay in the background of a village or farm scene without taking over.

Short or repeated

Crow Tail is a quick snippet for fast cuts, and Crowing Loop repeats the call for longer gags.

Wild

Junglefowl Crow is the only bird from the forest edge, a rougher call from the chicken's wild ancestor.
