About door sound effects

Opening a door is a short story told in sound: a latch or seal lets go, the hinge or track takes the weight, and the door moves until it stops. The material decides most of it. Wood creaks and groans, steel rumbles, glass hums thinly, and paper or canvas barely whispers. In English doors creak, squeak, swing and bang, and one shut in anger is slammed. Most sounds here follow the movement itself, building and fading as the door travels, rather than the click of a lock.

Which one to pick

Wood

Door Open is the classic creaky hinge. Oak Swing, Walnut Study and Hall Panel are solid interior doors, Cabin Door and Barn Track are rougher and more rural, and Saloon Swing is springy and a little comic.

Metal and glass

Steel Fire Door and Vintage Safe Door are heavy and low, Tin Shed Door is thin and hollow, and Storefront Door or Shower Glass Door give the light hum of glass.

Sliding and soft

Paper Shoji, Bamboo Screen and Canvas Flap are quiet slides for a Japanese house, a tent or a calm scene.

Powered

Train Doors, Bus Folding Door, Glass Lift Doors and Hospital Doors carry a motor or a rush of air.

Fantasy

Stone Slab Door, Tomb Door and Haunted Door suit dungeons and horror, and Toy House Door suits kids content. Door Slam is the only hard close; Arcade Lock Click is a short, bright synth click.
